- This
was an online Zoom videoconference meeting. Mike sent out a meeting
link for this Zoom meeting.
- Attendees: Mike
Boulland, Ron
Horii, Kim Gardner, Park Interpreter Rob McDonnell.
- Tomorrow's
First Friday Work Day has been cancelled due to heat. There's also not
a lot to cleanup, since a lot was done to prepare for La Fuente.
- Ron finished the newsletter before La Fuente. Mike made copies to hand out at La Fuente.
- Mike
passed out newsletters at Mike Cox's presentation at the Casa
Grande to an SJSU geology group. He also gave some to another private
group. He gave copies to the Parks Commission.
- Rob said that
they had their first school program in Region 2 today at the Bernal
Ranch. They were from San Jose and had 21 1st-2nd graders, with 1
teacher and 8 parents. It was hot, but they did activities in the
shade. Taylor School will be coming in 2 weeks.
- The County Parks website is being redesigned in November. They are editing and reviewing it. URLs might change.
- There is a new Public Information Officer: Nadine.
- La Fuente:
- We
had 4 volunteers at the FOSTP booth: Mike, Dorene, Kim, and Joan. We
got there around 2:16. We setup our booth and helped setup others.
Joan's sister Carole helped with the setup and cleanup. Youngmee helped
at the information table. Ron took pictures.
- Ron brought posters with pictures of the park.
- Kim said La Fuente was fun. The kids liked the games.
- Rob put a scavenger hunt on the back of the maps.
- Rob got 12 feedbacks.
- Terry Lopez, Interpretive Programs Coordinator, and her husband came to La Fuente.
- There
is $2016 in our bank account.as of 10/3/24. There are no outstanding
checks. There is an estimated $300 left in grant funds for the remainder
of the year.
- The Beautify SJ Grant Cycle 6 mid-year report is due November 15. The current cycle ends on 12/31/24.
- Mike showed pictures of La Fuente at the Parks & Rec. Commission meeting. He thanked Blair for the Ice Cream Social.
- Mike wants to repaint the garden boxes, but the old paint may need to be stripped off first.
- Mike talked to Jim Zetterquist, author of California Connection
about giving a presentation. He's willing to give a talk, but he wants
to sell his books. He wouldn't be able to do that at the Bernal Ranch,
but could do it at our old meeting location, in the Santa Teresa Golf
Club Banquet Room. He probably could give a talk at the Bernal Ranch,
if he just passes out information on how to order the books.
- The Golf Course wants to know if we want to give up holding meetings in the Banquet Room so they can rent it out.
- Mike
wants to have an end-of-year recognition event. We could have a potluck
lunch at our next First Friday Workday on 11/1. If it rains, we could
do it in the barn. Rob is busy on the first and last Fridays in
November, but is free in December.
- Ron showed a slideshow:
