- This
was an online Zoom videoconference meeting. Mike was not able to make
it due to a flight delay. David hosted the meeting with a free Zoom
account, limited to 40 minutes, so this was a short meeting.
- Attendees: Ron
Horii, David Huntley, Maurice Bayani, Kim Gardner.
- Katrina Semene was out on family leave for awhile. She may be back by now.
- There
will be a Community Bernal Ranch Tour on November 1. Mike is leading
it. He usually gives a private tour to a Meetup group around Halloween.
He talks about legends and tall tales as he leads a walk to Santa
Teresa Spring, the Bear Tree, the Pyzak House, and the Pedro Bernal
House. If there's enough time, they come back on the Norred Trail.
- Ron went over the minutes from the last meeting.
- David
gave the treasurer's report. For the BSJ Cycle 8 Grant, we received
$900 out of the $1400 awarded. They requested additional information
before releasing the remaining $400. Mike provided it, so we should be
receiving the rest of the money soon. Our bank balance is $10,972.19.
$978.22 is from grant funds. We may have to return some of it for the
Cycle 7 grant. $1993.97 is unrestricted from Art Boudreault's bequest.
$8000 is earmarked for the New Almaden Ting, donated by Art
Boudreault.
- We would like to move some of our money to a
high-yield account so we gain more interest. It would be in US Bank,
which is where we have our account. We need to investigate the
available accounts and the terms. The $8K is not likely to be spent
soon, so that would be a good candidate to move into a high-interest
account.
- We submitted our Articles of Incorporation to the
California Secretary of State. They replied saying we needed to change
some things: remove our address, and change the statement about our
signature. We need to re-sign a modified copy. David will bring it to
the work day tomorrow. The state application needs to be completed
before filing our 501c3 application with the federal government.
- The 2026 newsletter was completed. It's 8 pages and in color. Ron edited it. He also made a one-page flyer that links to the newsletter. Mike and David printed out copies of the newsletter and flyers to hand out at events.
- Ron showed a slideshow:
- There
was a dumpster left at the Bernal Ranch for weeks after the porch
reconstruction was done. People were dumping all kinds of trash into.
It was eventually hauled away.
- 9/12/26: FOSTP and NAQCPA shared
a booth at New Almaden Day at the New Almaden Community Club. Mike
Boulland and Mike Cox manned the booth.
- 9/13/26: FOSTP and
NAQCPA had adjacent booths in Martial Cottle Park during Viva Calle SJ.
Thousands of people attended that event. Lots of people stopped off at
the booth.
- 9/20/26: Conditions at the Bernal Ranch and
Santa Teresa Spring. Lee made a squirrel cage to protect a flower box.
There's more work to do at the spring.
- We are going to
have a work day tomorrow. 6 people have signed up. Maurice plans to
come. Ron will bring more screen material to protect more flower boxes.
The spring needs dirt and blackberry removal. To clean it up, we need
tarps, stepstools, shovels, and loppers.
- Ron said that the Almaden Research Center has been purchased by a developer. We need to keep an eye on plans for the property.
