- This
was an online Zoom videoconference meeting. Mike sent out a meeting
link for this Zoom meeting.
- Attendees: Mike

- Ron
is working on the newsletter. It's almost done. He needs a President's message from Mike
and an article from Lee about the garden boxes. It should be ready to pass out at Viva Calle SJ.
- We
will be able
to participate in Viva Calle SJ at Martial Cottle on 9/13/26, according
to Ronni
Johnson. They will supply tables, chairs, and a canopy. We'll be next
to NAQCPA. We'll pass out the latest newsletters there, or a 1-page
summary flyer, like last year. David can come and help. He will print
out the newsletters. Joan can come and help. Ron can help with setup
and teardown, but will be traveling the whole route, photographing the
event.
- We
talked about the documents needed for our 501c3 application. We
reviewed the Articles of Incorporation. A copy gets submitted to the
State of California. We already have an Articles of Incorporation, but
they were created in 1992. The language has been updated. It reflects
what we're doing. It has a conflict of interest clause. Ron said, the
phrase in Article II that says, "Second: To provide and maintain an
online meeting location..." should be changed to "Second: To provide
and maintain a meeting location..." because we have both live and
online meetings. Ron moved to approve the Articles of Incorporation
with the changes. All voted in favor.
- The by-laws don't need to
be submitted, but they need to be on-file. It can be posted on our
website, with a link to it, with a date indicating the version. Mike
moved to approve the current version of the by-laws. Ron seconded. All
voted in favor.
- We have enough money in our account to pay for
the 501c3 application, which costs $600. We voted in favor of applying
for 501c3 status, with Joan abstaining.
- We can get a Zoom discount if we're a 501c3.
- We
pay $40 per year to the state to register as a non-profit. We file with
the state Attorney General's office to maintain our non-profit status.
- We
are a non-profit already, just not a 501c3. Donations to us can be
deducted from state income taxes, but not federal. If we become a
501c3, then donations will be federally deductible.
- Mike,
Maurice, Ron, and David need to sign the hardcopies of the Articles of
Incorporation and By-Laws. David will bring them to our work day on
Friday.
- La Fuente has been canceled this year. However, this
Sunday 9/6, from 4:30-7:00pm, there will be a history talk by a park
interpreter and a concert by Los Panaderos, who will perform
traditional Mexican folk music. FOSTP can have a table there. We need
to bring our own table and chairs. Mike, Dorene, Joan, and Ron will be
there.We can pass out last year's newsletter. The new one won't be ready yet.
- David
has leftover newsletters (20 color, 20 B&W) 60 flyers from last
year, 18 trifolds, craft pages, gold pieces, raffle tickets, Santa
Teresa maps, and brochures. We can use them for the upcoming events. We
can give out candy. Mike can bring the Bernal Ranch model. We have a
count-the-bears game that goes with it. Mike has about 100 wooden
giveaways, like keychains, that Jim Beseau made.
- The Adopt-a-Spot garden group needs fertilizer. They will be getting it.
- Treasurer's
report by David: We have $11,185 in our account. We can spend $855 from
the grant. We have $8K earmarked for the New Almaden Ting from Art
Boudreault. He gave us $2K unrestricted, which we can use to pay for
501c3 application fees.
- Marisa Dobkins in the County
Parks Natural Resources Department is in charge of invasive species.
She will be come to our workday on Friday and talk to us.
- We
will have our First Friday workday tomorrow. Meet at the Bernal Ranch.
We can pull yellowstar thistles in the barnyards and cut the weeds
around the farm equipment. There are blackberries growing around the
barnyard fences. We can work around Santa Teresa Spring in the future.
It takes different equipment than we usually bring: tarps, stepladders,
shovels, and buckets.
- Ron showed a slideshow: replacement of
the porch at the Bernal Ranch house, the dumpster is still there and
needs to be removed before it gets full of junk, a kid riding an
e-motorcycle around the spring and on the canal, cabinets by the ranch
house were dismantled and the benches moved to the rear barn,
rattlesnake by the bus stop picnic area, green algae on the pond, crops
in the garden boxes, cage made to keep squirrels out of the garden
planters by the house, new trail signs, and places that need weeding.
