Friends of Santa Teresa Park Zoom Meeting, 6/4/26

    • This was an online Zoom videoconference meeting. Mike sent out a meeting link for this Zoom meeting.
    • Attendees: Mike Boulland, Ron Horii, Joan Murphy. (David is on vacation.)
    • David and Mike have been working on the by-laws for our 501(c)(3) application. They are based on a boilerplate document from Nolo. They also have the articles of incorporation and the IRS application form 1023.
    • We need to finalize our activity plan and get it approved. Carolyn Schimandle said she supports our plan. Mike needs to contact Ranger Colby Meenk about our work plan. Our plan involves us taking care of the outside of the houses, weeding/invasive plant removal, graffiti removal, brushing trails, boothing at events. We need to get approval for our activity plan to get the rest of our Beautify SJ Grant from the city.
    • Our next First Friday Workday will be tomorrow 6/5/26. 15 people are coming. We can work on the garden boxes, fix their irrigation system, sand and paint the benches and the storage cabinets, and cut blackberries around the Spring. Mike got 18 tomato plants. Maybe they can be planted in the empty garden boxes.
    • Mandy McGuire is the new interpreter at the Bernal Ranch.
    • Treasurer's report (sent by David). We have $329.54 cash in the bank. Art Boudreault sent Mike a donation of $10,000, but $8,000 of it is intended to go to preserving and presenting the New Almaden Ting. The rest can be used by FOSTP. We spent $44 for our PO box. $30.80 went for garden soil.
    • Ron showed pictures (first 3 on Facebook):
      • Santa Teresa Park Wildflower Hike: Fortini/Mine/Stile 5/4/26
      • Aftermath of the Fire in Santa Teresa County Park, 5/7/26
      • FOSTP Mothers and Flowers Hike, Santa Teresa Park, 5/9/26
      • 5/7/26: sign below Santa Teresa Spring was missing, sign holder was graffiti'd.
      • 5/17/26: sign about the chickens being relocated from the chicken coop to a local animal sanctuary (not open to the public). They are being moved because they can't be properly cared for, since the interpreters and volunteers aren't there often enough.
      • 5/29/26: hike on the Ohlone Trail, showing trees affected by sudden oak death. Music on the Hill posters at the Santa Teresa Golf Club, Thursdays 6-8:30 June-September. (We can't meet in the banquet facility during those months.)
      • 5/31/26: areas with grass and weeds around the Bernal Ranch, Santa Teresa Spring, and the Pyzak Ranch. They are potential work areas.
    • Our Mothers and Flowers Hike was fully booked up with 35 reservations, but only 2 people who signed up showed up. One invited her friend. We recruited a runner to come on the hike. We had 4 people total. Mike, Joan, Dorene, and Ron helped with the hike. (See album link above.)
    • We need to get a liability waiver form for our organization when we lead hikes. Mike needs to bring that up with the VCC.
    • We might not have a meeting and work day in July because of the 4th of July holiday.
